Role of fabric properties on crack development and propagation in rocks
Against the point of view of the classical mechanics, the crack development and propagation in rocks is significantly dependent on the fabric (texture) properties. The paper gives an overview on the technical classification of fabric types, their possible changes in the aspect-system of the three-phases petrophysical model. The fabric-elements may be considered as solid (crystalline and amorphous) minerals and porous media (voids), and joints (bonds) between the solid particles. The crack development is analyzed in crystalline (granular and porphyritic), glassy, pyroclastic, cemented and calcareous (carbonateous) types.
