A user's view on the Intercosmos Programme

The Intercosmos Programme was a great programme joining the space activities of 10 socialist countries. Aim and scope, volume and complexity are described in this contribution. Germany’s part in this programme came mainly from the GDR. This part is also shown as well as the part coming from the Institute for Cosmic Research which was co-ordinating Germany’s contributions. Because of the political changes and partly of the severe problems the member states are facing now, the really high time of the Intercosmos Programme is over. But we should remember it when talking about future trends because these trends are also based on this Intercosmos Programme.
