Interview with Vera Cornish Riddell
Audio recording and transcript of Vera Riddell's 1984 interview with Lynne Bowen for the Coal Tyee History Project. Riddell shares several generations of her family's history. Her maternal great-grandparents, James and Sarah Sharp, moved to Wellington from Pennsylvania after their emigration from England. Her maternal grandparents, John and Rebecca Sanders, also lived in Wellington, where John worked in the Wellington mines and Rebecca ran a boarding house. Riddell recalls how her father, Chelsea Cornish, met her mother, Sarah Sanders, at her grandmother's boarding house, and how he eventually left coal mining and went into logging.
