Interview with Tom MacDonald
Audio recording and transcript of Tom MacDonald's 1979 interview with Myrtle Bergren for the Coal Tyee History Project. MacDonald discusses various coal mining jobs, methods, and equipment, and he talks about how he started working in the Extension Mine when he was 15 years old. Born in 1912, MacDonald doesn't have any direct memories of the Vancouver Island Coal Miners' Strike, but his father was working as a coal miner at that time, and MacDonald shares some of the stories that he's heard about the strike's impact. He reflects on the connections between religious beliefs, union principles, and social programs, and he also talks about the history and practices of the Plymouth Brethern.
