Interview with Dave Stupich
Audio recording and transcript of Dave Stupich's 1979 interview with Myrtle Bergren for the Coal Tyee History Project. Stupich discusses his political career, including his entry into the CCF party and the outcomes of the nine elections he ran in to become an MLA in British Columbia. He talks about his childhood growing up in South Wellington, where his father worked as a coal miner. He gives background details about both of his parents and describes the family farm and his siblings' educations. Stupich speaks about different politicians who have served in the Nanaimo area, and he shares his opinions on how miners' experiences during the Vancouver Island Coal Miners' Strike carried over into local politics. Stupich also speaks about miners' early attempts to organize a union and on how the Second World War impacted coal mining.
