Combined damage-plasticity models for discontinuous fracture
In this paper, two combined damage/plasticity continuum models are rewritten in a degenerated fashion. The continuum models must be consistent with the incorporation of a displacement discontinuity. Consequently, the stress/strain relationships degenerate into traction-separation laws. The obtained degenerated models are used in a discontinuous fracture model. Within this model, displacement discontinuities are incorporated using the partition of unity property of finite element shape functions. Finally, the model is used to simulate tensile tests performed on a double-edge notched stone specimen. The computed load-deformation responses are compared with experimentally obtained curves.
