Aberration of starlight experiment

We propose a ground-based experiment using a conventional optical telescope to determine whether the aberration of starlight results from special relativistic effects external to the measurement sensor or from optical effects within the sensor. The proposed measurements would discriminate between these two different starlight aberration models. In addition, the measurements would yield an independent experimental test of relativistic time dilation.

Abstract

We propose a ground-based experiment using a conventional optical telescope to determine whether the aberration of starlight results from special relativistic effects external to the measurement sensor or from optical effects within the sensor. The proposed measurements would discriminate between these two different starlight aberration models. In addition, the measurements would yield an independent experimental test of relativistic time dilation.
