SEISMIC VERIFICATION OF UPDATED FINITE ELEMENT MODELS OF CABLE-STAYED BRIDGES
The work presented in this paper summarises some of the major concepts and difficulties associated with Finite Element updating. The approach outlines optimal measurment techniques for sensor location and the develops the theory of sensitivity based model updating. This leads to a comparison of sensitivity and ill-conditioning and how they influence the updating process. Examples of the application of some of the techniques to Cable Stayed Bridges are included. Also practical advice on redundancy and choice of measurement data is provided.
